Slice of pizza with red peppers and sausage on a stone near a campfire. Brightly lit, contrasting with dark, smoky background.

(Reheating brought food items 'see above' on red hot fire rocks is also a very very effective method with a little trial and error)

For when you want a super easy trip, you can never go wrong with a pasta or rice based option. Spaghetti & meatballs is as cheap as it is easy to make for anyone. (Try fresh pasta if you wanna be fancy, it's only a little more expensive and it also only takes a few mins to cook on top of being significantly better) Or, try an easy dry rice mix that you can combo with a can of beans, corn, and either a canned chicken or ground beef and you have a great and super easy lunch or dinner option.

If you plan on boiling water over a campfire I would advise having a specific pot for it as it will get blackened and somewhat dirty if that kind of thing bothers you. It's much harder to regulate temps on a campfire so I would start small with just boiling things for drinks or rehydrating foods.

My camping series mentions cookware and stoves here: Beginner camping series part 3

I would strongly advise starting your cooking adventures using some of these tools but if you want to go full caveman then you are more than free to try #campfirecooking as well. On the same note, you can make what I call hillbilly apple crisp using 1-2 sliced apples, a couple scoops of brown sugar, crushed graham crackers that you might be bringing for smores anyway, and some butter. Combine all these ingredients, double wrap in foil and place on a coal bed not a raging fire. You will have to flip this at least once and about 15 mins per side and you will have an impressively good #campfiredessert #campdessert

In the mornings you can easily make coffee with the pour over combo from Beginner camping series part 3 ↓ ↓ ↓

This Zojirushi Carafe is basically sorcery in it's ability to keep whatever you put in at mouth searing temps for hours. It does require a little extra care ( don't drop it at 5am right after you make coffee) as it does have a glass inner sleeve. Combine this with any coffee and any biodegradable paper filter and you have nothing to cleanup other than rinsing the coffee pour over. A quick breakfast idea to include with this is using one of your frypans with a little butter to toast bread. It works fast fast and you can quickly get everyone started on breakfast appetizers while you get going on your #campingfood
